SEN Forum Top Pick: Newbie needs direction/checklist to rank for tough keyword

New at this, I am seeking direction for a checklist or article to give me ideas on how to rank for a few very competitive keywords. Could I ask the forum to point me to some resources to study for this?

Thank you!
