Bing Maps Gets New Updates


The Bing's Map Team announced another round of improvements to their Maps Navigation on July 11th which helps make Bing Maps easier to use in our opinion.

The biggest change is a new way to center the map on your location by clicking the icon in the upper left corner of the map. This feature, called locate me, shown in the above screen shot, gets your location from the W3C Geolocation API integrated in your browser.

Bing reports that you'll have the best results using a computer that has WiFi enabled, however when we tested it, the current location feature was accurate within about one mile radius without WiFi. Another brownie point to Bing Maps on the new feature, is that locate me also works quite well within the Bing Mobile App AND at m.bing.com via a smartphone.

Bing has also updated the map navigation menu, making it a lot easier to switch between Aerial and Birds Eye Views, turn the traffic layer on and off, enable Street View and turn the Traffic Layer on and off. This is a nice improvement to Bing Maps, and we might add — we're seeing even more Aerial Imagery updated this summer, especially in rural areas which is welcomed as well.
