Facebook Defaults New User Posts to Friends Only


Facebook has updated its default privacy policy for all new users to have their posts set to Friends instead of Public, which it was previously defaulted.

For existing Facebook users, a privacy checkup tool will be rolled out in the coming weeks. This will help members review privacy settings for posts, apps, and profile information. See the screenshot below:

And here's a quick review of other privacy controls implemented in recent months:

  • Public posting reminder -- to let users know when they are about to publicly publish a post.
  • Simplified audience selectors -- iPhone users will be able to select their post audience at the top of the screen.
  • Anonymous Login for Facebook Apps -- This new login option "gives people the option to pick and choose what information apps get."
  • Redesigned App Control Panel -- a new dashboard that makes it easy to manage the Facebook apps you use and the permissions that go along with it."
