Facebook Makes Reaching Your Audience Even Harder

Facebook quietly released 3 updates to their News Feed this month and if you're successfully marketing your products or services on this platform then pay attention.

1. Multiple posts from same source - You can now see multiple posts from the same source if you spend enough time scrolling through your News Feed. Something that was previously restricted.

2. A more personalized News Feed - Your News Feed will now show you more about what you 'Care About'. This is a little trickier to explain as Facebook did not go into details beyond this statement:

The second update tries to ensure that content posted directly by the friends you care about, such as photos, videos, status updates or links, will be higher up in News Feed so you are less likely to miss it. If you like to read news or interact with posts from pages you care about, you will still see that content in News Feed. This update tries to make the balance of content the right one for each individual person.

This leads us to believe that pages you frequent more, liked or searched for will show more prominently.

3. You will no longer see what your friends are interested in - Going forward posts friends have liked or commented on will either show up much lower in your News Feed or not at all.

So how will this affect your reach? Well this is how Facebook explains it:

The impact of these changes on your page’s distribution will vary considerably depending on the composition of your audience and your posting activity. In some cases, post reach and referral traffic could potentially decline. Overall, pages should continue to post things that people find meaningful and consider these best practices for driving referral traffic.
