Get Traveling with Bing Maps Preview Improvements

Bing Maps has rolled out some improvements making Bing more of a one-stop shop. Now called Bing Maps Preview, the enhancements include:

  • One single search box! Previously, Bing Maps had two search boxes, one for the category, and another for location. Combining the search boxes makes searching easier and matches the user's expectation better.
  • Bing Maps Preview results are now the same as those at Bing.com. Pulling the data from the same place means Maps listings can be more robust and consistent.
  • Auto-suggest has been added to Bing Maps Preview offering up additional categories and ways to refine your search.
  • Additional search results. With Bing Maps Preview you get 20 matching results per card with additional results showing up as smaller points popping up on Maps. Clicking the additional results brings up information on each location.
  • Directions and traffic search has been improved as well with the ability to choose your mode of transportation and see the current traffic with easier search terms.
  • Along the route suggestions help users find landmarks, gas stations and restaurants along their route. This allows for easier travel planning.

None of the changes they've made are groundbreaking, though they make Bing Maps Preview a more robust product similar to Google Maps. Bing Maps Preview is available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and South Africa currently and Bing will make it available in more countries soon.
