Instagram Alienates Twitter as It Gets Cozier with Facebook

This past month, Instagram “changed the way it integrates with Twitter,” according to Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom. However, that's not how Twitter officials are telling the story:

“Instagram has disabled photo integration with Twitter. As a result, photos are no longer appearing in Tweets or user photo galleries.”

The truth of it is that Instagram is simply alienating Twitter, as it integrates with its new owner, Facebook. Instagram’s Privacy Policy update includes clear mentions of sharing data with “Affiliates” who are “businesses that are legally part of the same group of companies that Instagram is part of” (aka Facebook).

Days later, Twitter added the ability to add and edit pictures via their mobile applications, in a very similar style to Instagram (photo filters and cropping). Not too long after Twitter’s release, Yahoo and Flickr released their updated mobile phone app. The Flickr app offers 16 free filters to choose from, compared to Twitter and Instagram’s 10 free filters.

What does this mean for you? If you’re already using Instagram for online marketing, continue doing so! Instagram has 100 Million users on iOS and Android. Not to mention, you can further your exposure to some of the 1 Billion active users on Facebook. Twitter is also not to be ignored, as they have 500 Million registered users of their own.
