Set Your Site for a Global Audience with New TLDs


Dealing with unwanted geotargeting when it comes to your country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) can be problematic to say the least if you're selling to a global audience. Google has been working to address the issue by releasing an updated list of country codes that combined with a generic TLD (gTLD) will no longer be country specific in their targeting, meaning if your ccTLD is on the list then your site will be considered generic for a global audience instead of country specific.

Making sure you're targeting the correct geographic locations is important because it ensures that the traffic you're receiving is relevant to your site, improving your CTR, bounce rate and overall customer satisfaction. If your ccTLD is now considered generic but you only want to target a smaller audience, make sure you address that within Webmaster tools because the new list of gTLDs is now the default.
