Meet POPFile

Most spam filters available are considered to be rules-based, because they determine what is and what is not spam by comparing the text of an email to a set of predefined rules. The weak point of this type of filtering is that it can only catch spam which has characteristics that match the filter's predefined rules.

System Requirements

POPFile is compatible with POP3 email servers, the most common type out there. If you use an email client such as Outlook or Eudora, or nearly any other non-web-based software program, you can use POPFile.

POPFile is a Perl script that acts as a proxy server running on your computer. Therefore, your computer's operating system must support Perl.
