– dumped Google,
– locked arms in stride with Overture,
– rendered AltaVista, AllTheWeb, and Lycos impotent,
– and redefined both pay-per-click and organic search,
...effectively, all in one day!
Even by search engine standards, that's a whole lotta change. The bottom line is that it shifts our points of focus in terms of where to start in our efforts to get listed along the way to achieving top positioning.

There are now TWO "organic" search services...
Previous to Yahoo's announced change on March 2nd, there really was only one significant "free crawler" – Google. By that we mean that Google provided the only viable conduit through which sites could be listed in a major engine's search results without having to pay to be listed. And, as you know, scoring well on Google meant scoring well on Yahoo because Yahoo Search was using Google's results. Life was simple then – unless, of course you were having trouble cracking into the top of Google's line-up for your own specific keyword(s).
Now, however, you have another major player offering a free crawler – Yahoo! ...who has dusted off the old Inktomi engine, renamed it The Yahoo! Search Engine, and sent it out on its merry way to index the web with intentions of competi...
