How do I get a bad photo removed from my client's Google My Business profile?

  • I have a client who has an "undesirable" photo representing them in their Google My Business (GMB) profile. They put in a request to have it removed a couple of weeks ago. Any idea how long it generally takes? Are image updates tied to algorithm updates?

Answer:

What is "undesirable" to a business owner may not be grounds for Google to remove it. For example, a photo of bedbugs in a hotel room is likely considered to be quite relevant to both Google and searchers. The screenshot below shows Google's guidelines for photo removal.

You can use the Google My Business dashboard to indicate which photo you prefer to have as your COVER photo although Google doesn't guarantee they will use your preferred photo. If you have one that Google isn't showing, then we recommend trying different photos until you find one that Google likes. The good news is - they tend to update these very quickly.

If all else fails, and you still can't get the cover photo you think will appropriately represent the client's business, then try tweeting @GoogleMyBusiness for assistance.SEN article end
