Will changing an IP address or DNS cause us to lose our first page rankings?

  • Next DNS Server month we plan to change our dedicated domain hosting IP address to an account that uses more servers with better performance. At the same time we'll also be changing the name servers (DNS), although our domain name will remain the same.

What can we do, SEO-wise, to ensure we don't lose our front page ranking?

Answer:

IF the only thing that changes is the server and DNS, you should not see any change in ranking during this move.

This assumes you'll have the same domain name, same URL structure, and exactly the same content. If so, you should experience no problems.

However be sure to leave the old server up for a while during the DNS propagation phase. A day or two should be sufficient but to be really safe, we'd suggest leaving it up for a week.SEN article end
