Ad Formats Determined by Ad Rank


Google AdWords has made a change to how ad formats are weighted in the ad rank formula. Previously, what extensions were shown was dependent on a number of factors that were not well explained to the advertiser. This meant that the top spot ad could have no extensions while the second or third spot ad could have several.

AdWords has made a change so that going forward, those in the top positions will be rewarded with more ad extensions than the ads below it. For example, the ad in the third position will not have any more extensions than the ads above it. It is already proven that ad extensions and top positions increase clicks the change makes capturing that top spot and having everything in place even more important.
