Are You Liable for Your Client's Illegal Behavior?!


ticket.jpgA court in South Carolina fined the company Bright Builders Inc; $770,750 dollars for helping create the Web site CopyCatClubs.com. Once created, the site was used to sell counterfeit Cleveland Golf Clubs.

When all was said and done, the owner of CopyCatClubs.com was only fined $28,250 by the court system. This was all decided by a jury trial, which means that the public wants companies held accountable and more so than the individual funding the project. This is a warning, as it's not the norm...yet. Talk to your people and be sure that you consider the liability you're bringing on when assisting your clients. If they are asking for a domain name, Web site or optimization that is clearly illegal reconsider. At the very least seek legal advice before continuing!
