Bing Allows Home Page Wallpaper Downloads


You know those beautiful images Bing uses on their home page? By popular request, Bing has now made it possible for you to download the featured image of the day to your computer for personal use.

Bing's Search Blog announced the feature on November 8th. While it's a very cool feature, there are a few restrictions — You can only download the current day's image, but not any of the previous days images. That will keep you coming back every day to see if there is a new image you want we assume. The images are high resolution measuring 1920x1200 pixels, which is large enough for desktop wallpaper and all of them have a low key Bing logo on them as well. You may notice at times Bing will not let you download that day's Wallpaper - we're not sure why, it might be that some images use restrictions and don't allow that.

What's the catch?

Bing makes you connect to Facebook in order to download the image. Why is that important? Could it be that if you're logged into Facebook, that Facebook will share your phone number, email address, and other data with Bing so they can HYPER focus ads they display? Hello! What a reason to give away a picture, that kind of data is super valuable for targeted advertising.

We're only speculating on the reason why you would need to be logged into Facebook and not Bing in order to get the image, but it makes perfect sense. With the additional data that Facebook can provide it makes Bing advertising very powerful.
