Facebook Now in the Money Business & Gets Friendly with App Developers


Facebook has had a busy month with their latest Developer's conference, F8. They announced the new Messenger Platform. The launch means that third-party developers will be able to create apps specifically designed to integrate with Messenger. Developers can benefit because apps will be able to be shared amongst friends and downloaded right within Messenger making adoption easier. The new platform also has some benefit for businesses with Businesses on Messenger. If a customer opts in, Businesses on Messenger allows a new way to communicate with customers in real time about orders, shipping, etc. in one continuous communication. Businesses on Messenger will only be available to start with a few chosen partners but you can expect it to roll out to more in the future and we'll keep you posted.

Facebook also announced a free service that allows friends to send each other money through Messenger. The process sounds as easy as opening a message, entering the amount you'd like sent and adding your Visa or Mastercard debit card information. Receiving the money is as easy as adding your debit card number for deposit. The announcement is pretty exciting when you consider the possibilities. It will be available on Android, iOS and desktop and rolled out in the US in the coming months.
