Google Brings Paperless Coupons to Your Grocery Store

zavers.pngGoogle Commerce introduced Zavers by Google on January 11th, 2013. Zavers offers retailers and manufacturers the ability to load coupons onto consumer's rewards cards online, which completely eliminates the need to clip a coupon.

Zavers is Google's rebranded version of Zaver Networks' digital coupon and rewards program platform, which was in operation since 2006 and Google acquired in 2011.

How it works is that the consumer chooses the coupons they want by visiting retailer Web sites and saving preferred coupons to their personalized rewards account. The rewards are instantly loaded onto that same card they're already carrying in their wallets. They then swipe the card at checkout to receive their discounts and they're good to go.

zavers_example.pngZavers also keeps records of shopper's habits and usage of coupons, which allows businesses to track the success of offers. Then armed with specific online data about coupon usage businesses can adjust their marketing to get more customers buying.

Zavers has several retail partners already partaking such as A&P, Bi Lo, The Food Emporium, and most recently New York grocer D'Agostino. If you shop at one of these grocers, then signing up is easy and free. Once signed up, you can start to understand how it works and see if it's something you'll be interested in later down the line.

For example, if you shop at A&P, just register for their my+REWARDS card (this is their loyalty program, which includes Zavers online couponing program). See the screenshot below of what A&P's Zavers site looks like.
