'How To', FAQ and Q&A Content Coming to Top of Google

At Google Dance in Singapore Google's Developer Manager, Stacey Chan, shared three new types of Google search results that will soon be rolling out. They all fall into a featured snippet type of search result, which are specifically focused on FAQ, Q&A and 'How To' content pulled directly from a page that's using the proper Structured Data. Stacey went on to encourage webmasters to add the proper Structured Data to any content that falls into these three categories.

  1. Q&A Schema - This is used to markup a page with Q&A or Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

  2. Questions Schema - This is used to markup each specific question found on the Q&A or FAQ page. It works in conjunction with the above Q&A Schema.

  3. HowTo Schema - This is used to markup step by step instructions for a common 'How to' task.

As of the time of this writing, Google doesn't include the above schema types within their Featured Schema Guides, which you can locate by going to the Google Developer's pages on Structured Data and then clicking on the left hand menu Structured data > Featured guides.

And if you'd like to see the Q&A structured data markup in action then Stackoverflow.com is a great site to look at. Their code has some warnings in it but they've also been showing at the top of Google's results for their Q&A for quite sometime now.
