SEN has now outlived all of the search engines that we originally reported on in our inaugural issue back in February 1997.

We've seen the likes of Webcrawler, AltaVista, Infoseek, Excite, Lycos, OpenText, Inktomi, and HotBot all fade away. Now it's Yahoo's turn to go out with a whimper having also been unceremoniously buried by Google - the great serial search engine killer.

So, as you probably already know, Yahoo's Internet portal is being acquired by Verizon. The rest of Yahoo is becoming Altaba once the sale is completed. That's when CEO Marissa Mayer and co-founder David Filo will leave the company. Altaba will become an investment company with stakes in Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba and the major Japanese Internet portal Yahoo Japan.

Yahoo the Internet portal will be folded into Verizon and, for all practical purposes, the Yahoo we've all known for the past 20+ years will be no more.
