Yahoo Testing Different Layouts
As reported last month, Yahoo is gearing up to be a more mobile compatible company and one of their first projects is to optimize their super high traffic home page which millions of viewers visit frequently. AllThingsD.com reported on November 9th the testing of a new touchscreen tiled design (shown below) which looks similar to the new Windows 8 design.
The new design is apparently only for select test groups, as most people are seeing the old design below on their desktop browsers.
We did notice a change however in their tablet design already on November 23rd, this design shown below is certainly more geared towards tablets and is viewable by anyone at www.yahoo.com/tablet. This version is touchscreen friendly as you can swipe across the images at the top to see the different news stories that are up.
Yahoo does indeed already have a mobile version as well. While the look and feel doesn't really match with either their tablet or desktop versions, it is indeed mobile compatible. Yahoo has also been surveying Axis browser plugin users during November to learn how they can improve it.
With some recent surveys reporting that 1 in 4 Americans use a mobile device as their primary way to access the Web, making a site mobile compatible is becoming very important.
