Can an http to https conversion be done coincident with a site redesign?

Can an http to https conversion be done coincident with a site redesign and what's the best way to manage redirects?

  • I am about to begin a site update which includes a redesign from html to responsive as well as a conversion from http to https secure site. I'd like to get this done as soon as possible, however, I'm not clear about which to do first? ...or can both be done at the same time?

I'm also a bit confused about the best way to manage redirects. Can you provide some guidance on that as well. Thanks.

Answer:

You can do both at the same time and, indeed, there are redirects you should put in the htaccess file (assuming you're on a apache server) that can generate the 301 redirects from http to https.

Ideally you should keep the URL structure the same to keep things simple. Obviously, the smaller the site, the easier the conversion. Here's a recent article that'll help you get through the process: A 2019 Pro's Guide to Migrating a Site to HTTPSSEN article end ...
