StumbleUpon is one of the biggest traffic sources we've found—capable of delivering hundreds or even thousands of visitors every day to your site. In fact, for many of our sites, StumbleUpon is second only to Google in terms of traffic volume it sends.

So Just What is StumbleUpon?

StumbleUpon is an extremely popular social bookmarking service. But unlike sites like Digg or Delicious, StumbleUpon users (also known as Stumblers) install a toolbar directly into their browsers, which allows them to stumble upon new pages all over the web. It's sort of the Internet version of channel surfing with your TV remote. (Note: You can also Stumble sites in your browser, but we find the toolbar makes it much easier).

Each StumbleUpon toolbar has a button labeled Stumble!, which Stumblers click to be served up new pages based on the interests they specify in their profiles. If the user likes a page, they click the I like it! button to give it a thumbs up. If they don't like it, they can give it a thumbs down.

The more thumbs up a page gets, the more often it gets served to other Stumblers, increasing the number of people who see it. Pages that don't get many thumbs up, as well those that get too many thumbs down, are dropped out of the StumbleUpon rotation.
