Bitly Offers a New Social Data API

Bitly announced a set of new social data APIs that allow you to access the most popular and top URLs for any topic in real-time.

The APIs can be used in three ways.

• True Realtime Search - Allows you to run a search for a specific topic and lets you know the top URLs and stories in real-time.
• Attention Spikes - The burst API allows you to see what keywords may be 'spiking' in popularity at a particular time. The example Bitly provided was that of the giant squid. The day of the announcement a giant squid had been caught on film.
