Mobile Usage Over Takes Desktop for the First Time in History

It's official, as of January 2014, people now spend more time using apps on their smartphone or tablet than they are using their desktop or laptop computers, and the trend only continues to increase.

The term "Moore's Law" refers to a prediction made by Intel co-founder Gordon Moore in 1965, which states:

"Over the history of computing hardware, the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit doubles approximately every two years."

This means, generally speaking, that about every two years, we can make a computer chip that runs at the same speed as the previous generation of chips, but is half the size and uses half the power. It is this "law" that has brought us from the room-sized mainframes of the 50s and 60s to the indescribably more powerful smartphone that rests in your pocket.

This exponential reduction in size and power requirements over the years has made the transition to mobile devices inevitable. This trend continues, and will continue for the foreseeable future. That is why it is critical to place your site and marketing efforts ahead of the mobile adoption curve by ensuring mobile users have an optimized experience now.
