Webmaster Tools Helps You A/B Test, Track Social Signals & Utilize their API


Google is integrating their Website Optimizer tool with Google Analytics to create a new feature called Content Experiments. Content Experiments (a tool within Google Analytics) helps you create multiple versions of a page and then choose randomly which one to display when a visitor shows up at your site.

The feature will then track how well each version of the page performs. Then as soon as there is enough data, it will tell you which page performs the best and end the experiment. Which is all just a fancy way of saying A/B testing :)

If all that sounds great, you'll be happy to know that Google has built a wizard to help you do it. All you have to do is add one tag to the original page, and Google will help you do the rest.

In addition to the Content Experiment tool, Google has expanded the Social Reports feature in Google Analytics that will track all back link URLs, post titles, and more. This means that whenever someone links to you or your content or posts about your content socially, Google will let you know about it in these reports.

This should be a great way for you to get an idea of who is linking to you and your content, which in turn can help you connect better with those who network you and your audience.

Finally, Google has created the Google Analytics Easy Dashboard Library with the help of some UC-Irvine students to help webmasters utilize the Analytics API much more effectively.
