Hands Free Voice Search Now Standard on Droids

If you're an active Andriod user, with the KitKat operating system, then you may already know that by simply saying the words "OK Google" to your phone triggers a voice search. For example, you can say "OK Google, what is the weather like in Chicago?" and your phone will automatically do the search and then reply back with a voice response. You can use it to set a reminder, perform searches and make calls among many other interesting tasks. All these can be done from any screen.

To be clear, you don't have to touch the screen in order to get it done. The words "OK Google" will launch the voice search and perform the task you want. The only exception is if you're running an application that is already using your device's microphone like Pandora.

If you grab your phone and give it a try with no response then here's how to get it activated:

  1. Locate the Google Settings icon on the app and then select search and now.
  2. Choose Voice and select the option that works best for you such as From Any Screen or From Lock Screen.
  3. Then to be sure the app responds to your voice you'll be asked to turn on audio history and say "OK Google" 3 times.

This is the perfect time to start testing voice search to get more familiar with how people will naturally search for your business's services. Voice search is getting easier every day and as it rolls out to more of the population the adoption rate will rise as will the search traffic.
