Marked Up Q&A Content Getting Position Zero Results on Google


Google announced the roll out of Q&A rich results for pages that properly code their Q&A content with QAPage markup. They've also integrated reporting on Q&A Page rich results within Google Search Console making it the fourth rich result to get data reporting along side Events, Job postings and Recipes. Here's the example rich result Google shared.

Here's how Google explained it in their announcement:

To be eligible for this feature, add Q&A structured data to your pages with Q&A content. Be sure to use the Structured Data Testing Tool to see if your page is eligible and to preview the appearance in search results. You can also check out Search Console to see aggregate stats and markup error examples. The Performance report also tells you which queries show your Q&A Rich Result in Search results, and how these change over time. Kayla Hanson, Google Software Engineer

A quick summary of Google's Q&A Rich Result Guidelines:

  • Only use the QAPage markup if your page has information in a question and answer format, which is one question followed by zero or more answers.

  • QAPage markup is meant to be used to markup a SINGLE question and answer on a dedicated page. It's not for a big FAQ page.
