Pinterest Aims to Improve Its Search Results

Pinterest is making some aggressive moves to improve and refine their search results. First, they're adding a new recipe search filter, which allows you to pin up recipes featured on your blog. They'll then be categorized by diet such as Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten free, Paleo and one catering to the sweet tooth called Indulge Me.

You can trigger this new filter by entering a food based search term (such as salmon with asparagus), and once you search -- a dropdown menu appears on the left. Expect to see this for mobile users soon.

Secondly, Pinterest just announced the buy out of VisualGraph, a two-person startup that's said to be a "cloud-based, big-data image recognition [and] visual search platform". This acquisition was likely made to help Pinterest improve the quality of their search results, which would then allow them to expand upon their Promoted Pins (aka paid advertising) model.
