Google Merchant Product Search Now Requires Unique Identifiers!

Google is now making merchants that participate in Google Product Search use unique identifiers for products in all categories except for apparel, custom, and one of a kind items. This allows Google to create better, more detailed product pages for users. They sent out emails to merchant account holders warning of this action.

Pay Attention Here - Starting June 20th, when a site has over a certain percentage of items that are improperly listed, the entire catalog of items from the site will not show up in the Google Products page! Google has already begun putting this rule into place. Until that date, Google will simply not display the specific items that aren't properly listed. This will remain true, after June 20th, for items on sites with only a few items that aren't listed correctly.

If you'd like more information about the requirements for unique identifiers, you can visit Google’s Help Center.
