YouTube Gets a Cleaner Look but Hasn't Changed Its Shady Ways


YouTube is a corner stone of the Internet. Unfortunately, it also has a nasty reputation online for copyright infringement. We all wondered if that would change after Google announced their Pirate algorithm update in August 2012, which was a direct campaign against any site that was blatantly violating copyright laws. So far we've seen little to no action on Google's behalf - especially when it comes to their own sites.

We published an update in Dec 2012 covering how the regulatory committees were getting frustrated at Google's lack of action and everyone expected a big push by Google dealing with the issue as a result. Well it seems that in response to all the pressure Google has decided to rolled out a new design to the biggest violator of copyright on the net, YouTube.com. Hey why not :)

This new design gives visitors a fresh, clutter free homepage:

It also includes cleaner and easy to find navigation, which allows users to subscribe to channels easier.

The new design puts more emphasis on the videos and looks to be a smart move toward getting viewers watching more videos for longer periods. If you are promoting your videos on YouTube (and if you're using video then this is a must) these new features are a big bonus to you.
