Google takes Manual Action Against Sites with Fake Snippets


matt_penalty_card.jpgGoogle has just released a new Manual Action penalty that's designed to target sites that have been manipulating rich snippets to get more traffic for their sites. This penalty comes on the heels of Google removing more than 15% of all rich snippets from the search engine results page, as a measure of quality control.

If you're concerned that your site might trigger this penalty then be sure to check within your Webmaster Tools for any manual actions your site may have. Here's what this one reads like:

Spammy structured markup

Markup on some pages on this site appears to use techniques such as marking up content that is invisible to users, marking up irrelevant or misleading content, and/or other manipulative behavior that violates Google's Rich Snippet Quality guidelines.
