Google Webmaster Tools Rebranded as 'Search Console'


A recent post at the Google Webmaster Central Blog announced the rebranding of Google Webmaster Tools as Google Search Console. The cause for the rebranding is said to be more inclusive. From Google's Michael Fink,

"It turns out that the traditional idea of the "webmaster" reflects only some of you. We have all kinds of Webmaster Tools fans: hobbyists, small business owners, SEO experts, marketers, programmers, designers, app developers, and, of course, webmasters as well.

What you all share is a desire to make your work available online, and to make it findable through Google Search. So, to make sure that our product includes everyone who cares about Search, we've decided to rebrand Google Webmaster Tools as Google Search Console."

One of the first capabilities added under the new name is App Indexing and Analytics. Now app developers can use the Fetch as Google tool. You can read more about these app capabilities at the Google Webmaster Central Blog.

As far as we can tell, the rebranding is in name only. But we will keep you posted as Google Search Console develops and changes. The new URL for is: g.co/SearchConsole.
