How can I add owner comments to a Google Sidewiki page?

  • I'm noting several Sidewiki comments on my blog and I'd like to respond to them directly. Can I add comments as the owner of the page that will always show up on the top? Is there a way to add the same entry to all pages at one time?

Answer: Certainly one of the main criticisms of Google Sidewiki, is that anyone with the Google Toolbar installed and Sidewiki enabled can leave a comment about your site for every future Sidewiki user to see. Sometimes these comments can be less than flattering and clearly the ability to respond to them directly or "set the record straight" is desirous.

Fortunately, Google does allow Web site owners to claim their listing in Sidewiki, with one immediate benefit: your comments display at the top of your listing over all others comments displayed on the page.

The benefits to doing this as a site owner are clear:

  • You can use the space to advertise to other Sidewiki users.

  • You can use the space to talk directly to other Sidewiki users.

  • You can point users to more information on your site.

  • You can push commenters to subscribe to your RSS feed.

  • You can request commenters follow you on Twitter or fan you on Facebook.

  • You can respond directly to criticisms or correct mistakes.

To claim your listing in Google you must first verify your site in Google Webmaster Tools. Make sure to review our detailed article on Google Webmaster Tools if you need assistance in claiming your site with Google.

Once you claim your site in Google the rest is pretty simple; just follow these simple steps:
