Adds Site Speed Tool to Google Analytics

Google Analytic's newest feature is something that we here at Planet Ocean were thrilled to finally see. The new Site Speed Report tool allows you to check your site's page speeds quickly and efficiently. The report includes a number score that indicates how your pages perform. Google then goes on to show you places on your pages that can be improved and suggestions as to how you can fix them and improve your page's score.

Here is what Google has to say including some suggestions on ways to leverage the new Site Speed Report tool.

  • Content: Which landing pages are slowest?
  • Traffic sources: Which campaigns correspond to faster page loads overall?
  • Visitor: How does page load time vary across geographies?
  • Technology: Does your site load faster or slower for different browsers?

Setting up the Site Speed Report

By default, page speed measurement is turned off, so you'll only see 0’s in the Site Speed report until you've enabled it. To start measuring site speed, you need to make a small change to your Analytics tracking code.

API for Page Speed
Also related, Google has released a new API for Page Speed Online. The new API allows users to integrate the performance reports into their command line tools and Web performance dashboards. Google has also integrated the API with the WordPress plugin to allow Page Speed analysis for WordPress users.

If you'd like to get more familiar with how to use the new API, you can use Google’s get started page.
