'Fetch as Google' Tool Shows Site Rendering & Missing Resources

Google Webmaster Tools updated their Fetch as Google tool to show you an actual rendering of the Web page in question and lists the resources it couldn't access. Take a look at the example of "fetch and render" in action below:

This allows you to "fetch and render" (or actually see your site as Googlebot sees it) in a variety of settings such as:

  • Mobile Smartphone
  • Mobile cHTML
  • Mobile XHTML/WML
  • Desktop

The tool not only shows you how your site looks in the eyes of Google, but also lists which resources Google was blocked from seeing, such as your JavaScript files. Do yourself a favor, log into Webmaster tools to give this tool a quick test drive. It's easy to use and will quickly lay out any crawl/indexing issues Google may be having with your site.

Warning! You may trigger a penalty if Google can NOT access important resources and render your Web page properly. So take the time to test your site because any of these issues are an easy fix now, but reversing a penalty after the fact isn't.
