Google Simplifies The Search Results Page


Google has been testing a simpler cleaner look to their search results for about a year now. They first launched it on tablets and then to mobile users. Sticking to their advertised goal of being consistent across all platforms, Google officially rolled it out to all US desktop users on November 6th.

This new design with 'more breathing room' completely eliminates the side navigation and pushes the familiar advanced search features to the top of the page.

So besides having a consistent design concept to manage across all devices, we are left wondering what other motivation they may have to shift this way. They are probably banking on the toolbar location increasing clicks which will then increase search specific advertising and shopping results.

This design still has some bugs to be worked out but Google is working hard to get those fixed and makes it clear that this design is here to stay. If you have feedback then don't by shy about telling Google how you feel.
