Google's Volatile December in a Volatile Year


Search G-volitility ranking volatility was the watchword last month as a product review update merged with an apparent core update to produce one of the most volatile months ever for rankings.

SERountable.com reported Big Algorithm Tremors on December 18th and included the charts, graphs, and webmaster comments to fill in the details.

Then, on December 28th Mordy Oberstein, Head of Communications at @semrush "got ahold of a cool graph" showing how much more volatile December was compared to the rest of the year...

And, even though Google's John Mueller tweeted out ...

...another "jolt" was reported by SERountable on December 29th complete with charts, graphs, and comments showing blips around December 27th and 28th by "some but not all" of the tracking tools.

Regardless, the general consensus was that December, the most shopping intense month of the year, was uber-volatile for search rankings in an already volatile year!
