Private Blog Networks Get Google Slapped


Google put yet another feather in its cap on September 18th, when it sent out thousands of Manual Action notices and aggressively de-indexed sites participating in Private Blog Networks (PBNs). Matt Cutts, who is currently on an extended leave from work, took the time to tweet about his feelings on this move.

Seems a little much that he would step back into work just to taunt black hat SEOs. Some of the comments on Matt's tweet show a mixed bag of supporters along with angry SEOs.

To be clear, Private Blog Networks are groups of sites that are controlled by one publisher with the goal of building links to each other and boosting rankings within Google. The sites tend to be full of thin content and aren't actually built with the idea of benefiting real site visitors.

Our advice has always been to steer clear of these lazy attempts at link building. If a link was easy to get then it probably isn't a link you want. Here are some resources that will show you how to build links that will stand the test of time.
