GTIN Required for ALL Google Shopping Products by May 16th


As you know, Sept 2015, Google starting requiring Google Shopping merchants to include Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) for 50 different brands in their listings. Well, Google has just upped the requirements and you now have until May 16th, 2016 to include GTINs for ALL of your product listings. After that date, items without a GTIN or one that is incorrect will be disapproved for ad listings.

What you need to do
If you're targeting Australia, Brazil, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the UK, or the US, submit correct GTINs and the corresponding brand for all new, in-stock products that have GTINs assigned by the manufacturer. Learn more about the details of the GTIN requirement and unique product identifiers. There are a few important dates to keep in mind:
  • February 8, 2016: Warnings begin. You'll start to see item-level warnings in the Diagnostics tab for products that don't meet the requirements. Use these warnings to help you update your product data.
  • May 16, 2016: Enforcement begins. You'll start to see item-level disapprovals in the Diagnostics tab for products that don't meet the requirements. After this date, you'll need to meet the GTIN requirements to continue serving ads for your products.
