Structured Data Tool Launches with New Features & Policies


Structured data code is like a map of your content explaining to Google what exactly each item is. Google has been working hard over the years to update their ability to read and understand structured data. Most recently, they announced the following updates:

  • New Structured Data Tool - The new tool gives you a better understanding of how Google perceives your pages. The new features include a structured data validator, support for markup in JSON-LD, including in dynamic HTML pages, a clean display of structured data items on each page, and syntax highlighting of structured data errors within the HTML code.
  • Updated Documentation and Policies - Google has worked on their documentation page to further clarify markups and when to use them with examples and simplified their Policies page. You can read their updated documentation guidelines here and their policies here.
  • Expanded JSON-LD vocabulary to include company logos and contacts, social profile links, events in the Knowledge Graph, sitelinks search box and event rich snippets with the promise of more to come.

Google's continued focus on making it easier and easier to understand when and how to use it properly emphasizes its continued importance. So keep adding those rich snippets to keep your site competitive.
